Michelle Eskola’s practice explores the abstract sublime. Her work sits on the threshold between abstraction and conceptualism, often incorporating repetitious iconography and labour intensive techniques. What appears to be pure painting, on closer investigation, reveals an active space that combines personal experience with larger cultural influences.
Michelle completed an Honours Degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts Practice at the Queensland University of Technology (2008), and a Post Graduate Diploma in Visual Arts (2014) at TAFE Brisbane. She has exhibited extensively both locally and nationally and was the artist in residence at the Museum of Brisbane in 2018. Her works feature in many public and private collections throughout Australia including Gadens Lawyers, Museum of Brisbane, and Mater Hospital collections. Michelle is Co-Director and Founder of The Cosmic Centre, an ongoing collaboration exploring multidisciplinary approaches to arts practice and collective modes of authorship.
